Ingrown toenail is what it sounds like. For mild to moderate pain, and as long as there is no swelling or seepage, try using an over the counter medication called Out-Grow. It will dissolve the nail under the tissue that is causing you pain. If the pain is severe, is causing swelling around the toe, is red and/or hot to the touch and is seeping any kind of fluid, you will need to see a doc or a podiatrist to have it removed. I have had one before. The removal process is fairly painless and there no ill effects afterwards. They numb your toe with carbon dioxide in a spray can and gently cut away the problem nail, leaving you with a normal toenail. Also in the future to prevent getting more ingrown toenails, I would recommend using either Toenail scissors or a toenail clipper (its much larger than fingernail clippers) and only cut straight across. Don't round out your toenail. They should be straight. Good luck.

You have an ingrown toenail. Some time ago you may have clipped you toenails too short and an edge has start growing through your skin. It is very painful and will not go away. This will only get worse so I recommend going to the podiatrist (foot doctor) asap. He will slice open your toe, remove the ingrown nail, and give you some antibiotics for the infection. Your foot will be fine in about a week after.

Probably ingrown toenails. Soak your feet, then try to pry the nail from the skin on each side. I always use a clean toothpick to do this but just use something clean. Apply antibiotic ointment after this and do it several times a day.
If not better in a day or two, get to a podiatrist.
Good luck

The nail could be becoming ingrown. Be sure not to clip your nails too short, especially on the big toe. If it gets more painful or red, you may have to call the doctor to have it lanced. Sometimes they just go away on their own though as your nail grows longer.

you probably need to cut your toe nails or you may have an ingrown nail.
when my toenails are too long, shoes put pressure on them and cause pain. for an ingrown nail, you should see a doctor because doing them yourself and likely improperly can lead to more problems and it's more likely that you will get more.

Sounds like your shoes are too small and it hurts the tip and can cause ingrown toenails. Get your feet properly measured and wear the right size shoes. Remember...as we get older our feet do spread out. Always take out the insole of the shoe you are considering buying and hold it up to the bottom of your foot. If your foot is bigger than the insole in anyway, the shoe is too small.
