I go into my computer and it just shows drive as empty? I can use several cd/dvd's and still same, then for some reason it just starts working all by itself? any clues, as need to open stuff up just now for work and it's doing my head in! 10 points for 1st correct solution.

Download this small program from Microsoft. It's called Autoplay Repair Wizard, and it should repair the auto update on your CD/DVD drive.

It does need validation, so if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows, I'm afraid you'll be out of luck.

Aha! A quick search, and I've found a link where you don't need to download it directly from Microsoft. (The second link.)

sometimes drivers wont play burned Disks or scratched disks...i know this will sound stupid but wipe it off if you haven't already. Has the disk you are using worked in that driver before? Maybe its not formatted correctly. If none of these answers are true than you driver is being glitchy...The hardware is sensative and could have gotten bumped and now it doesn't always work up to par. If something is loose that could explaine why it works sometimes but not others....i would just keep taking it out and putting it back in gently untill i got some results.

Does it spin at all when you put the disk in??? Can you hear the drive attempting to read it? or does it do nothing?

you will get low profile/narrow drives however the final public of CD/DVD drives are a similar length. They the place designed to greater healthful in to a 5¼ bay initially designed for complicated disk drives.

it may be that you need to clean the drive get some compased air and spray short shots of air in the drive.if that doesn't work than get a cd \ dvd rom cleanning cd and use it.
