We have a crawl space which has no moisture coming in at all & has ventilation, but still has a musty odor. We have painted it with special paint and done our best to figure out why it is still musty smelling but it isn't getting any better. It is a large space with a door that opens into a family room. Our house is very clean but this smell is so noticeable people comment on it. Please, can anyone help with suggestions. We have tried all kinds of odor masking sprays, etc, but it just seems to make it more noticeable.
Thank you for any help you might give us. We are truly desperate to get rid of this smell!!

Buy some "Oust" at the grocery store where the cleaning supplies and fragrance sprays are sold. I really works. I had a musty odor in the air vents in my car and it was the only thing that worked. I've used it other places with success.

Your sewing machine definitely needs to be serviced by a reputable mechanic. Any machine that has sat for that long needs the oil and grease cleaned out and replaced. If dust, mold, or god forbid something crawled in and died! inside your machine and you turn it on you could possibly have it catch on fire! Also oil can get old and become rancid and very nasty smelling. There is no other way to clean your machine other than opening the whole thing and cleaning it out from the inside. Do your machine a favor and have a professional take care of it. Would you do the same thing to a car that has been sitting for that long?

I would mist the crawl space with vinegar and see if it neutralizes the smell or put a tray of coffee in there to absorb and change the scent. You could also try baking soda or a scented cat litter that would absorb dampness and odor.

i haven't tried it, but I'm told leaving a cup of vinegar in a room for a couple of days will do the trick.

You can buy volcanic rock, it comes in small mesh bags. It will eliminate these odours.
