Dick Devos who is a Republican running for Governor is against the minimum wage increase and his wife who works with the state Republicans has stated on record that the problem with Michigan`s economy is the wages are too high. Devos wants to turn Michigan into the Mississippi of the north. Granholm is being attacked with "She ain`t gitten it done" when she has no control of the state house, the republicans do! She is fighting outsourcing, a Conservative economic idea. I don`t trust Devos. I would rather have someone who does nothing(claimed by Devos)then someone who screws stuff up plus I don`t usually vote for people who don`t come from the middle class.

I am not opposed to maintaining the Federal minimum wage. I believe supply and demand should drive the wages. In fact, by requring employers to pay a higher minimum wage it will reduce the supply of jobs because employers will look to cut costs. Rather than highering low skilled workers they will feel the need set in place stricter guidelines and requirements for thier workers to justify their increased output. The higher the minimum wage requirements goes the fewer jobs there will be for low skilled workers.

When I was 16 I didn't want to earn minimum wage, so I didn't. I worked somewhere that would pay more, or where I could earn commissions, etc. If businesses are having difficulty filling positions they will raise the wages, I don't think they need big brother stepping in. Our economy and employment have been doing fine, or even better than fine.

I'm not a Republican or anything else, but what I think is :
I would like to see some of the people who set these standards try to live on that paycheck. Even with 2 people in a household working minimum wage jobs, there is no way anyone can survive on that. It's $7.10 where I live and the median house cost is $269K. A person with an annual income of $50K cannot afford to live in this state. It's sad when you cannot afford to support the town you live in, and I think that is the case for most of this country.

It's kinda silly. Does anyone know anyone who works for minimum wage? Even high school students work for more than that. It's pointless to raise the minimum wage with unemployment being so low. There are plenty of better paying jobs out there. If you don't like the one you have, get another one. Employers need you!

Raising minimum wage also raises unemployment rates and the cost of goods and services.

Timer, nice try. Inner cities are run by Democrats. Based on their success, we can tell Dems care about poor people, lol.

You know what they say, Everything goes up but the pay. Where I live the minimum wage is $6.50 and no one can survive on that. Especially when the price of everything else is going up.

Are you sure it's that high now? I was making that much before, and now I make minimum wage, and with inflation, this sucks for me :(
