when during the day my shoes seem to get tighter and I have to pull off my shoes and then tug on the toes of the socks to get them to fit properly again

Could be a few things:
Poorly fitting shoes
Poorly fitting socks that are not long enough will fall down and scrunch.
Slippery material that the sock is made of.
Number one reason: not good enough elastic on the upper area of the sock.

what you're describing is the opposite of what usually happens. If you are wearing "quitters" then the sock will fall down around the calf and into the shoe. This common problem occurs when the elastic is stretched out from years of use. Discard this sock. It seems if your socks are getting tighter maybe you are too fat or you walk funny. If you are too fat, try staying off your feet or elevate your poor feet when you are off them. If you are walking funny try to walk more smoothly without stuubbing the bottom of your shoes into the floor. This action will inadvertantly tighten your socks. Glad I could help.

I'd say that your shoes don't fit properly and allow your feet to slide forward when you walk thus causing the socks to tighten across your toes.

Socks are made for certain size ankles and calfs, if a persons is larger than that the elastic can not hold up the sock.
