I truly think humans are SO DESPERATE to fill the holes in their hearts with ANYTHING that will even temporarily sustain them that some people chose to go with SUPER CONSUMERISM with buying useless products. I am not sure if they consciously KNOW the item they are buying is useless at the time of the buying. Even if the person does know that the product is completely useless, I think that some people get (temporarily) fulfilled in the "buying" of the purchase that they just don't care that it is useless. Have you never bought anything that you KNEW was completely useless? Maybe not. I know I have. Some people just like to spend money and BUY, BUY, BUY. The more items they obtain through purchasing- the more complete they feel. I am guessing this is related to materialism, some times. Also, and lastly, I think people are DRIVEN through commercialism and advertising to buy useless products. It is a very powerful thing for a lot of people. Often times it is on such a subconscious level- "we" don't even know we are being programmed to be a "super consumer!"

Good question,
I thought about that a while back so I sought to change it. in myself, can't change the world in a day.
But I compare todays society often to ancient culters. They seemed so much happier, and peacefull back then. Simpler times, and yes they were primitive, but can't we keep those values, and still advance? Without spirituality, which is what we are losing day after day, can we really advance the way we want to? Plato and Socrates, were some of the worlds most intilectuals, and they had their spirituality, and philosophy. We are just trading these peacful thoughts for material posetions, and we are getting screwed in the trade.

I dunno, but our consumer culture is so disgusting it's vomitous. Fisticuffs over Elmo dolls? I wish Americans would remove head from sphincter.
