i would guess about 20-50 million.

Too many. I don't think you'd get an accurate number out there, but total all the production of every manufacturer of such hardware and you may get an idea.

Not all networks are connected to the big internet, but may be isolated into their own networks.

i think the only way anyone would ever get a true idea is to call all multi pc users and all internet services as well as all the ITdepartments of every company and do a total survey.
