I think it's a piece of *bleep* that isn't much better than the spyware it supposedly protects against. But in a world with millions of virus writers with nothing better to do, it's a necessary evil and one of the better programs for the purpose.

Norton used to be state of the art software but in the last few years has degraded into resource hungry bloated code that seems to protect the computer by using so many system resources that you can not use it for normal activities.

No, I actually think it is one of the worst. Since it's bundled with almost all software packages then hackers make viruses that target Norton specifically. There are so many out there but my personal fave is Trend Micro PC cillin.

as others point out, accurately, Norton is a system resource hog. it's bloatware. AVG is fast, free, very unobtrusive, and works great. i don't know why anyone would use any other anti-virus software.

NO. Actually I think it's the worst. It uses all the resources from a computer and it doesn't detect all the viruses either. In case you don't know what to choose here you have a list with some good and free programs:

When I have used it it seemed to get along best with my computer. MCAfee caused it to crash and I had to reformat. So I stay with Norton, although I have not bought it since 2002, I tried 2005 and it slowed my computer way down. I had to uninstall it. I think they want you to upgrade your computer as you do their service.

I think I'll vote for a "No" since it really slows your computer down and even it did a good job in virus cleaning, still... it doesnt pay off..

It's very good antivirus program, one of best. Has a concurrency with kaspersky and mccafee, the rest simply can't compare.
