As an international student in states, I like homecoming events, but I don't really get it. Thanks in advance.

Um, its a tradition dating back to English universities where students would go away for a long time (years) to get there education. Its just a way of getting nostalgically attached to the university you attend.

Homecomings really are about money. Or, atleast started that way. Homecomings started back in the early 1920's. It was an invite for the Alumni to 'Come Home'. And a chance the hit them up for some money.

It is to show off the real reason you have school -- sports teams -- and to show off the people that really matter in the school -- the popular ones.

No clue... it probably started as a small tradition and then got bigger and bigger.
