I agree with other yahoo users that say that seasonal changes depends on the Earth axonal relationship to the sun. Using the equator as a dividing point is a simplified method of demonstrating contrasting seasons (Austalia would be the opposite of North America) But not exactly precise. I would also like to add that many South Asian/Africa countries adopt a three seasonal year (dry, rainy, hot. etc.) specific to their country.

It depends on which side of the Equator you are in. If your north during winter, then it's summer in the south. Also if your really close to the equator like South Africa or South East Asia, there are no seasons at all. It summer all year long.

When it's Winter North of the Equator, it's Summer south of the Equator. The amount of change depends on how far North or South you go.

seasons do not follow borders the equater is not the dividing line either. it is the earth axis in relation to the sun which makes seasons change and the angle which it is at. it's like painting the canadain 200 mile fishing limit rainbow colour so the fish know where it is. but yes summer in canada is winter in south america
