Solution is to have a balance of power in Washington. When one party controls the house and senate we get greed and corruption.

There is a chasm that developed between northern and southern states as a result of the disparity in wages between the two areas. It would have been nice if the South had copied the North and been more union friendly, wages there became about half of what Northerners made. This caused a great deal of jealousy and many of them see the solution as pulling the rest of the country down to their level. The abortion issue is probably just as important as the Republicans have been able to use it to their advantage even though most people recognize that their economic policies don't benefit the middle class.

The political parties have pushed the team mentality . You know the I'm for this team no matter how bad they are. You watch the peoples reaction to when you challenge there team and when you challenge there political party and it's that same gut emotional reaction. How to defuse this I don't know but the future looks bleak as we head into an era where the Conservatives over throw certain long held rights like abortion, habaes corpus and the right to privacy. This in the end may turn into a shooting war maybe civil war part 2. It won't happen now but it could in my life time and this time it won't be done with armies it will be done Iraq style with militia's and terrorist groups.

Any country becomes politically polarized in face of a crisis (diplomatic, economical, etc.) And I believe that it is this polarization that moves the country forward most of the time.

I also believe that difference of opinions and discussion are an integral part of freedom.

Our country became polarized when the resurgence of conservatism ( the 80s) brought on radical right wingers and divisive liberals. Social issues are the things that could separate friends because the media has also contributed to this polarization. I doubt that anything coud be done to remedy this.
