Bottle-nosed dolphins, being mammals, will reproduce internally and give birth to a single live young tail first. Females carry their young for 12 months. They breed all year though in some locations a basic breeding season has been noted. females initiate mating and the male will adopt an s-stance before mating with his head up and flukes down.

When the baby is born, it is often helped to the surface by aunts or 'nurses'. The baby nurses from their mother by latching onto nipples just under their mother. near the tail. The mother has special muscles that squirt milk into the baby's mouth.

Bottle Nosed Dolphins bear a calf about ever 2 years.
