In high school, almost everything. Wuthering Heights, Robinson Crusoe, Silas Marner, Great Expectations, anything Hemingway, etc.

In college, really only one Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy

The Scarlet Letter. My English teacher Sophomore year in High School was a former nun (this was not a Catholic School). She beat that book to death.

Hmm, it's a tie between "A passage to india" and "Lord of the Flies" but I think I'd have to say "lord of the flies" because I couldn't even finish the first one, so I don't know if that counts. Flies I finished ahead of the class so that I wouldn't have to suffer through it any longer than necessary

Mine unfortunately, was Swiss Family Robinson. Not because of the story, exactly (though they did kill pretty much every animal they saw), but simply because the author chose to use the word endeavor about six zillion times.

we did a child in time by ewan mcewan for a'level english... its the biggest piece of rubbish i have ever read, and the plot jumps all over the place, and even though i must have read that book so many times, i still dont get it... aaarrrggghhh! even thinking about it now is making me stressed!
