Quentin loves his sister Candace. When he could find no love from his mother, and his father rejects all things in life, Quentin naturally turns to Caddy for love and understanding. He has an obsession with Caddy’s virginity which is symbolic of his desire to find something pure and unspoiled to believe in. When Caddy fails his expectations, it leads him to the thought of suicide. For him Caddy’s dishonour is a serious matter and his concern for Caddy makes him end his life. It makes Caddy guilty always so when she gives birth to a daughter she name her as Quentin as mark of her brother....so though it is confusing but William Faulkner uses the name "Quentin" for both genders....male & female.

Well, there are two Quentins. The first is Caddy's brother, who kills himself. Then Caddy has a daughter who she names Quentin. Good luck reading that book, it's confusing, I know!
