Or what age have you been told? I used to think it was 40, but I was told recently that I should already start worrying, and I'm only 25.

I was 31 yrs. old when I was diagnosed with Stage II invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer). I noticed a lump in February 2002 but was too busy preparing to move into a new home and open a new office to be bothered. I didn't think it was cancer - I was too young. I ended up going through a year of surgeries, chemo, radiation, more chemo. and herceptin treatments. I was the youngest in my Friday chemo group - everyone else was 40+. I still have to go back to my oncologist for regular check-ups - every 3 mos. I have since seen women much younger than myself there. One of my sister's in-laws was diagnosed at 18 - right after she had had a baby and was preparing for another. It is a disease that can strike any age past puberty (and in rare cases even men can get it).
If you have a family history of BC, insist on getting regular mammograms accompanied by ultrasound (mine didn't show up on the mammogram but did on the ultrasound). Become educated on doing monthly self breast exams. Also, try to change to a healthy diet - lots of fruits and green leafy veggies. I ws encouraged to move from the 5 a day frame of mind to 10 a day. Homemade yogurt (it's really easy to make), fewer red meats, cut out as much fast food and processed foods (even sugars) as possible. Start reading labels on the foods you buy. You would be shocked at how many foods contain processed sugars and red or blue dyes (all those small amounts add up to a very large amount when you consider how much you consume). Switching to organic is a good idea also - it doesn't have to be done all at once, you can slowly start incorporating more organic foods into your daily diet (it can be rather expensive). Practice yoga and get/stay fit - mentally and physically. These are just a few things to think about if you are concerned. Even if you are not at risk - you will feel better for living healthier.
Blessed Be, Sister.

The young mother that had the breast cancer (and she is young) was saying it is now 30 years old.

Quoted from website:

Breast cancer risk increases with age, with women up to the age of 40 having a one in 200 risk of developing it. By the age of 50, the risk is one in 50, but for women over the age of 70, the risk soars to one in 11.

There is a one in 15,000 chance for women up to the age of 25, and a one in 1,900 chance for those up to the age of 30.

So really, it depends on your level of paranoia ;)

you can get breast cancer at any age, and it does not matter if you are male or female, you should do monthly self exams and when you go to your gyn they do one also. Its something you should at least be aware of not worried about, early detection is what the experts say is best for survival.

You should never worry about it. But you should always check yourself, whatever age you are.
