When been deep frying chips and/or fish the smell of fat lingers in the house for ages after - how can i get rid of the smell quicker?

Boil Vinegar on the stovetop. It will smell like vinagar for a bit, but it will get rid of all smells. You can also add some sliced apples and cinnimon to the pan to lesson the smell of the vinegar

It depends on whether the wood is painted, and with what kind of paint. The odors may be absorbed into the grain of the wood. If you can't wash the smell off, that is probably where it is. Then you paint it with an alcohol-based primer, the same thing they use after a fire to seal in the smell of smoke. Then you paint over that with a finish coat. I suggest you ask for advice at a paint store. You will need their advice one way or the other.

wash the walls and curtains. Just a suggestion: Keep the doors shut when u fry fish so it doesnt go into the other rooms. Open the windows during frying too.

Natural method - Add 2 halved lemons to a pan of vigourously boiling water, boil until smell has gone.
Chemical attack - Oust.

Open windows a good douse of fresh air works wonders as well as the incense sticks people seem to use these days.

Bake bread in the oven. Put some vinegar in shallow plates and place them in various areas. Open windows, unless too cold to do it, fresh air is the best air freshener. Baking bread works the best.

To hide smells in the house fresh coffee it always works , much better smell.

Fry in the basement or garage, with the door shut. My mom always did that and it worked.
