I live in Georgia, and here it is 14...however, a judge will "hear" a child as young as 10 or 11, if there is a good reason why they want to live with one parent or the other. I hope this helps. This is a tough situation, and I wish you and your child/children the very best.

If you are being hurt you need to let someone know and get help, it eventually goes to the Family Court and the Judge will ask you were you want to live. Just don't make your choice on material possesions of the parent you choose, it will not work in the long run. Be honest and fort right and make the choice based on truth.

I suppose it's around 13 yrs of age...when theyre in their last year of middle school.??
Unfortunately for the child who desires to live with one parent or the other...the court will have to hear a good case for such a thing, particularly if the child is NOT better off with the parent they want to choose to live with. The courts always decide in arguement what is in the best interest of the child regardless of his/her desire.

I don't think that a child should ever be put in the position of choosing eithere his/her mother or father......... I was put in that position and I still have trouble dealing with the choice I made becaused you can never plase your both parents at the same time with such a life changing question at stake.

I think at least 16 or 17. Really i don't think thats up to the child. The parents should be able to discuss what is in the best intrest for the child. How will the child no what is best for them. Thats one of the responsibilites of being a parent decideding whats right for your child.

I think when they are old enough to know and understand the situation between their parents. Just sit down and talk to them and let them decide on their own judgment.
