New scam warning !

pass it on...

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT AREA CODES:
We actually received a call last week from the 809 area code. The
woman said "Hey, this is Karen. Sorry I missed you--get back to us
quickly. I Have something important to tell you." Then she repeated a
phone number beginning with 809 "We didn't respond".

Then this week, we received the following e-mail:

Subject: DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809 , 284 AND 876

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T. DON'T EVER
DIAL AREA CODE 809

This one is being distributed all over the US . This is pretty scary,
especially given the way they try to get you to call.
Be sure you read this and pass it on.
They get you to call by telling you that it is information about a
family member who has been ill or to tell you someone has-been arrested,
died, or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc.
In each case, you are told to call the 809 number right away. Since
there are so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return
these calls.

If you call from the U.S. , you will apparently be charged $2425
per-minute.

Or, you'll get a long recorded message. The point is, they will try to
keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges.
Unfortunately, when you get your phone bill, you'll often be charged
more than $24,100.00.

WHY IT WORKS:

The 809 area code is located in the British Virgin Islands (The
Bahamas).
The charges afterwards can become a real nightmare. That'! s because you
did actually make the call. If you complain, both your local phone
company and your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and
will most likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing for
the foreign company. You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that
argues they have done nothing wrong.

Please forward this entire message to your friends, family and
colleagues to help them become aware of this scam

Speaking of wrong numbers lol.................. I checked into a hotel on a business trip and was a bit lonely, so I thought I'd get me one of those girls you see advertised in phone booths when you're calling for a cab. I grabbed a card on my way in. It was an ad for a girl calling herself Erogonique, a lovely girl, bending over in the photo. She had all the right curves in all the right places, beautiful long wavy hair, long graceful legs all the way up... you know the kind. So I'm in my room and figure, "What the heck, I'll give her a call." "Hello?" the woman says. Wow! She sounded sexy. "Hi, I hear you give a great massage and I'd like you to come to my room and give me one. No, wait, I should be straight with you. I'm in town all alone and what I really want is sex. I want it hard, I want it hot, and I want it now. I'm talking kinky the whole night long. You name it, we'll do it. Bring implements, toys, everything you've got in your bag of tricks. We'll go hot and heavy all night; tie me up, wear a strap on, cover me in chocolate syrup and whipped cream, anything you want, baby! Now, how does that sound?" She says, "That sounds fantastic... but for an outside line, Sir, you need to press 9."

I've never gotten one of those calls, but if I ever did, I certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to call them back. The only time I call people back is if I know for sure who they are, and if I know who the company is (like the bank, for example). Even then, with companies, I'm a little leary about it. My thinking is, if it's important and I'm not home, they should leave me a detailed messege with what it's pertaining to. Even if it sounds ligit, I'm always cautious about things like that.

Never answer phone unless caller identifies themselves and I know them. Never realized how effective this is, because scam artist want nothing on tape, but thanks for information in case congress doesn't change and all consumer safeguards vanish.
