Those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it. Unfortunately, more and more people here in the USA are losing our awareness of history.

I doubt very much that you would see a return to Nazism on the same scale that engulfed Europe during the Second World War.
While individual Countries may have totalitarian regimes, their capacity to wage war on neighbouring Countries is limited by their economic and industrial limitations. Of course there are those who argue (quite absurdly) that Bush and Blair are the new Fascist Regimes in town, if that were the case both Afghanistan and Iraq would be totally suppressed by now, remember Hungary back in the 1950's? The former Soviet Union failed to suppress an uprising using Draconian methods and fearing other Communist States would follow suit Invaded the Country instead in order to regain control. Nazism will always exist although it will never thrive on the scale that Hitler envisaged.

Sadly Nazism is making a return. In fact they never went away. While they may now wear smart suits, ties and shirts rather than jackboots and uniforms some of the far right parties in Europe and other places draw their inspiration from the original Nazis. As someone once said the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. If such ideas and organisations are not resisted here and now then we will see another descent into barbarism - and this time it may destroy our civilisation entirely.

Unfortunately, yes.

There are two problems. Firstly, as people forget the horrors of Hitler's Germany some people are willing to look to parties that wish to continue Nazism. Secondly, and more insidiously, there are dangers that the evils of Nazism, such as excessive invasion of personal privacy in order to exercise political domination, are being adopted by unscrupulous politicians of non-Nazi parties.

It is important not to demonise Nazism unthinkingly but to understand why it was so wicked. Use of the term Nazi as a mere form of abuse makes it difficult to point out where other politicians are repeating Nazi mistakes - they too often attack their critics for slandering/libelling them instead of mending thir ways.

First, I would suggest that you read a book byErich Fromm entitled ESCAPE FROM FREEDOM. It is a psychologist's view of how a Hitler could come to power.

Take the information from that and just today in the US under the same criteria and see if you don't find more than incipient Nazism in the here and now.

Nazism was a form of totalitarianism particular to Germany, but it is completely possible, indeed fairly likely, that other nations will have authoritarian governments which will pursue genocidal policies.

Thus, since the Nazis, we have seen Pol Pot in Cambodia, The massacres in Rwanda, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, the murderous policies of the Chinese, Idi Amin, and various South American dictatorships of varying degrees of cruelty.

Curently Burma has a cruel millitary regime.

I guess Nazism never really went away, it just went into hiding. Once Hitler was gone it dissapeared from the public view but it still existsed and still does today (unfortunatley). There are still individuals, groups and parties that share similar views and ideas. The big question shouldn't be will it come back but when will it resurface as a popular view point (hopefully never)

Although I don't condone Nazism, it is still alive. There is an American Nazi party and some European countries still have nazi or neo-nazi parties.
I quote, or paraphrase, Voltaire...although I may not agree with what you say, I will defend, with my life, your right to say it. I don't like Nazis, or like social beliefs, but I do believe that people have the right to think that way. It is despicable and inhumane but they can believe what they want. It becomes a problem when people act on their beliefs and harm others. Then I do not defend their right to free speech and expression.

have a nice day.

It is coming back without us realising. Bush has used 9/11 to produce a climate of fear where we are watching our civil rights disappear without us noticing, under the pretext of his war on terror. He is also victimising an intire people (muslims this time not jews) for the actions of a few. Remember Hitler used the burning of the Reichstag (german parliament) and the fear it produced as an excuse to vilify and hound the jews. The similaritys are scary. It is sad how quickly people forget. NEVER AGAIN

It is back in Germany, a party like the Nazi Party has come into Government and they have nazis demonstrate in the open. Germany has not learned it's lesson, there is massive unemployment again and there is a large part of society who just exist, they are called th Underclass in Germany, they have no jobs or any hope to better their economic situation, ripe for another Dictator to come to power.
