I'm just interested. I've been looking through an article on it and seeing similarities in my behaviour and stuff. Not extreme things, just difficulties and stuff.
So, definitive tell-tale signs?

I'm probably just slightly dyslexic. I have difficulty articulating verbally sometimes and I saw a connection. It's probably just paranoia.

Autism is much more common in boys than in girls. Approximately when the child is 2 - 3 years old, he does not relate to other playmates, he plays alone and with repetitive movements. Language skills are very delayed.
In some cases, the child suffers also mental retardation

If you're asking, you probably are not autistic. In general, individuals with autism have below average IQ levels, impaired communication ability, including language delays, and generally exhibit stereotypical behaviors such as hand flapping or arm waving. In some cases, these behaviors may be self-injurious such as head banging. They typically do not respond "normally" to physical touch. For instance, as babies, they may arch their backs when picked up rather than cling to the caregiver. They have extremely poor social interactions. For example, they don't exhibit reciprocal behavior, they cannot interpret others' emotions. They will often exhibit "echolalia" which means they tend to repeat the last few words just uttered by someone else. If you want to know the signs and symptoms, check the DSM-IV TR.

Look in the DSM-IV for the exact criteria. In general you need to have some sort of delay in communication either verbal or non-verbal or both. You need to have a delay in social skills, not knowing how to interact properly with others. Some people with autism have repetitive mannerisms, either hand flapping or rocking, or preoccupation with things that move like water, fans or wheels. You can read through the DSM_IV and think you or people you know fit many different disgnosis, but it really has to interfer with your ability to lead a normal life for you to have a disgnosis. You need to have most of the criteria to an extreme.

Do not look directly to the eye, walk backwards, have difficulty with speech, difficulty to eat solid foods, have to be taught the bathroom habits, they can run and use their hands to applause simultaneously, have to be taught motor habits, have a tendency to repeat the same word continuously and may have echolabia which is repeating evrything that is said to them..

Rocking back and forth for hours, little sleep, little or lack of sleep, little or no vocabulary...etc... This does not mean they don't know what is going on around them. They just are unable to communicate to us on how they feel, or think.
