good question! doesn't sound good. Worms usually need moisture...which you don't want in your basement. Larva of any insect isn't good either, I would call a pest control company and ask them to come out and give you an estimate, you want a professional to make sure they aren't termites or something destructive. My basement/crawlspace...though you can stand up in it has no bugs what so ever.....Clark....I love them.

They're millipedes. They can fit through the tinyest crack and get into your basement. No one has figured out why. Once they get in, in a dry basement they dehydrate and die in 24 hours--so by coming inside they kill themselves. Best way to get rid of them is with a vacuum (use one with a disposable bag because they have a sickly sweet smell).

You can try to keep them out by spraying liquid Sevin around your basement door and windows and any cracks in the foundation.

Long term, it's a good idea to keep ground covers one foot away from the house so your house has a one foot dirt band around it. It slows them down. And if the weather is not too cold caulk around the door and windows to fill any gaps and look for gaps in the foundation to fill.

i know you say they are black but finding them in the bathroom which is naturally damp and has wet areas then i would suggest that they are SILVERFISH. you can get a spray from any good diy shop that will kill them. they normally go for cover so shift anything they can hide behind as you tackle the problem
