It is a carrot-and-stick question. There is no either/or answer but a judicious combination of both. Taliban cannot fool anyone if the aid agencies do not do their job right.
Our greatest enemy is poverty. What wouldn't a poor man do if he has no chance to make a living? Cheat, steal, rob and kill? What else? If people are on the brink of starvation with no chance for survival, they offer a fertile ground for planting hatred ad revenge in their minds.
Focus on removing poverty and control massive fraud and corruption both among the aid recipients the aid agencies themselves. Military solutions create more problems than solving them if the transition to a stable self-government is not achieved within a reasonable frame of time.

The British public takes note of all these things but invariably chooses to ignore them. However I believe we all unconsciously increase our awareness of our surrounding. We should of course be concerned. As a previous answer says. It is a shame that this rather small world cannot get along as I can see no reason for being so militant, Unhappily this all extends to the population as a whole as there are sectors in this country(GB) that cannot get on together.
What real hope is there for the world as a whole with different religions and languages.

You should always be afraid of zealots who really believe in what they're fighting for! They are irrational, homicidal maniacs who believe that if they die for they're cause they'll spend from here to eternity rogering the twelve virgins (Houris) that they'll get in paradise for blowing themselves and others to Kingdom come.
Now whether the imminent attack etc is true, who knows, these boys for all their desire to drag us back to the middle ages are in fact quite media savvy. What I don't doubt are the thousands of Muslims in Europe willing to die for their religion.

Yes, if you examine look at past history. At least a percent of what they say is always true. They are our enemy and we should never not ttake them seriously. If we ever do, we could face another Pearl Harbor, Tet offensive, and (9/11).

I think we should take every necessary precaution. The Americans didn't think it conceivable that two air planes would be used as weapons.

Worry...even if they ARE lying (which is quite possible). We've already seen what they're capable of.
Personally, I think the entire Middle East would be better off if we just nuked the entire area into a radioactive parking lot...thus putting all of those people out of their own and OUR OWN misery!
