I read this book called "As alive so dead" by Allison Dubois. She claims that she can see and communicate with people that have died, yet refuse to cross over. I found her book very interesting. She says once we die there is a light we can go to that hangs around for about three days. She says if you choose not to go into it you can become trapped here. She says everyone can go into the light, thats why she doent necessarily think it is heaven, it is just where you are judged. Anyway check out her book if you want its about 200 pages, and I read it in a day..Also if you have a chance go to www.coasttocoastam.com Its a radio program they play late at night in most areas. They have had her on a couple of times. and they talk about afterlife and creepy stuff

Some spirits and souls are considered very strong willed, and depending on how they died or how strong a constitution they had while on this earth, some may want to stay here longer to see justice done in the case of a wrongful death. Some stay between the earthly plain and the other side to simply protect or to watch over others that are still here. Depending on just how religious or spiritual a person was while here on earth, and if they have come to know Jesus they may have crossed over immediately after death to 'go home' and go to heaven. Some may have to remain here to rectify or 'put right' those things that they may have done wrong in the past before they can cross over.

There are a number of reasons.
They lost something important to them and want to find it before they leave, usually this is to lead someone to it, not for themselves but for their loved ones.
They need to reconcile with someone they love but have hurt.
In the case of a work-a-holic, they had unfinished business and seek to accomplish this work. Like a painter finishing a Painting or Sculptor, many times, in this area, it can be an Artistic Person, but, not always.
Basically it narrows down to something they needed to do, but, from the few examples I have given, there many answers/reasons for this.

no such thing as ghosts. most kids learn this by the time they are 10 or so. sorry to burst your bubble, paranormal, psychics, even all religions are nothing more than fabrications to help us feel as if we are not alone. all humans have an innate wanting of not being alone, face it.
