Add an anti spyware and an anti adware to your security programs, and Ccleaner.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware
http://www.ccleaner.com Cr*pcleaner Registry cleaner and privacy tool
Use Ccleaner to clean up your pc, then run the anti spyware and see if anything shows up.
And defragment your hard drive; if your files and programs are fragmented it can put your pc under extra strain. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter. Leave it while it runs.
Have more RAM installed if you have less than 512 mb.
Finally, dust the case! If the fans are clogged with dust it will overheat and freeze or crash. Unplug it and stick the hoover nozzle at the holes in the case.
(if you have a cylinder cleaner). Never use a static duster or furniture polish anywhere near it.

computers freezing normally point towards a hardware problem,as i had a problem with the mouse freezing when i inserted a dvd/cd-rom and it was finally tracked down to a faulty ide cable, the ide cable that connected my cd/dvd-roms to my motherboard
a quick replacement ide cable and the problem went,so my advice is to try to find out exactly when your p.c freezes, for example ,is it while you are on-line,or is it while you are accessing your hard drive and once you have found the answer to that.investegate further i.e if its while you are accessing the hard drive,,it could be a problem similar to mine a ide cable ,but if its while on-line ,it could be a network problem, such as a fualty network card or even a defective router-modem
its a hard job,but its well worth it in the end,
note:why not try using a u.s.b mouse if you are using a ps/2 mouse at the moment,or vice versa,as it may be as simple as a irq conflict ,
just remember to back up any important data before you undergo any technical changes
good luck

Information Overload - many complex processes running on sometimes hardware/hard drives that simply cannot handle how intense and robust the sometimes draining applications and systems processes (esp. Microsoft!) will cause it to just say, Okay, I have had enough and cannot process anymore. Therefore, I freeze up until you stop doing it! Try running less windows, free up more space, and a million other things you can do to try to manage from not having it freeze up if it happens routinely.

You could be on some days utilizing most of your memory which will in result make your computer slow up, freeze, yes viruses do this and so does spyware, some programs have memory leaks which while you use them over time during the day will suck up all your memory resources. You can see how much memory resource you pending on OS you running, Xp just hit ctrl alt del and go to performance.
Below are some things you should have on your computer, one thing you can do is use the Trend Micro online scan for free, it scans for virus and spyware, then you should get the spyware scanning and removal tools listed, they are all free.

can be a couple of things, its either hardward conflicts caused by too much info being processed by having too many programs running which use up processor power, try closing background applications one thing i really recommend to to stop the hard drive from index listing as this really slows the pc down.
the other problem is spy-ware, adware, trojans, phishers etc, try Spybot search and Destroy it's free and really good. or go to Tucows.com and search for spyware programs ,ake sure you download the freeware versions though as like they state are free too. run spy checkers and anti-virus checkers every few days

Computers 'Freeze' when they have to access something in memory which is unavailable or corrupt (or dueto lousy programming of applications).
You should take note of which programs are active when your pc crashes and try to narrow down the list of suspects causing your problem.
Once you think you have found the culprit, check out the knowledge base sections on teh manufacturers sites to see if there are any known issues or patches.

Computers run on little particles called electrons. When the electrons slow down, they become cold. When they become too cold your computer freezes. I would contact your electricity supplier and ask for electricity with warmed electrons.

Too much activity on the network. Or overuse of computer. Or perhaps it's an old computer. Depends on the make & maybe also your provider.

Computers freeze when they have a bad owner. An owner that doesn't take care of it properly, and completely takes advantage of it. You just use your computer! You *****.
