And did the rolling stones?

One of the band members of each had to be sacrificed?

Great question, and my rational response is "no." The rumor that the members of Led Zep sold their souls is a long-standing one. The first time I learned of it was when reading a book called "Hammer of the Gods" by Stephen Davis.

The Zep rumor comes mainly from guitarist Jimmy Page's interest in the occult -- namely, occultist icon Aleister Crowley. (The same "Mr. Crowley" that Ozzy Osborne would later sing about.) The rest of the band, however, wasn't particularly interested in the occult and, therefore, it's unlikely they participated in any sort of group satanic ritual transaction.

Robert Plant was actually a family man for most of his tenure with Zeppelin. John Paul Jones was always a very serious-minded musician and largely didn't participate in much of the decadence typically associated with the band. John Bonham was a drunk.

If Zep did sell their souls to Satan, most of them got ripped off. Bonham is dead (perhaps sacrificed, as you point out). John Paul Jones is respected but certainly has found none of the commercial success he had with the Zeppelin. And Jimmy Page has been a shadow of his former self since the band broke up -- bouncing from one half-*** musical project to the next. (The Firm? David Coverdale?! P DIDDY?!!)

Robert Plant is the only one who's mainted some modicum of musical talent and dignity. Go Robert.

To be honest, I've never head that the Stones sold their souls to the devil. Ironically, this rumor makes more sense because the Stones are STILL selling out massive arenas to this day and Keith Richards (God love him) is still, well, alive.

All that said, I I doubt any souls were actually sold, though a lot of records certainly were.

Oh boy! You can't really be serious!

The DEVIL does not exist, there is no such thing as the devil, it is a dumb belief by some mentally retarded pseudo religious nutters.

Actually if you study any religion profoundly you will see that there can not be such a thing as the devil, how can there be, if you're religious and believe in the creation, Omnipotent and in every respect almighty G_d why would he create a devil. Actually if you study the old testament or ask a learned rabbi you will realise that not only is there no devil, evil can and does not exist either.

One can have evil inclinations, ie the desire to do evil or bad things but evil by itself does not exist and can not manifest itself in any form other than that of a mature person doing bad but this is freewill and his/her choice.

In Judaism there is no concept of a devil like in Christianity or Islam. In Hebrew, the biblical word ha-satan means adversary or obstacle, or even "the prosecutor" (recognizing that God is viewed as the ultimate Judge).

In contrast to the Christian traditions and Islam, Hinduism does not recognize any central evil force or entity such as the Devil opposing God but does recognize that different beings (e.g., asuras) and entities can perform evil acts and cause worldly sufferings.

It's funny to see all the people who seem to be commenting on this topic as if they were in the room either way and were the 5th person to cast the deciding vote. I didn't realize so many people had exclusive stories to such a possible career and life altering event. Thank you all for being there and waiting only until the question was asked to come forward!!! You are all such brave people, I can't imagine living life the way you do!?!?! God Bless You All

Uh? No. Have you been ready those silly magazines again? I thought that we had talked about this and that your were going to throw them out. No bands sell their souls to the devil... maybe to a record company or two, but not Satan. Rock stars sometimes die because they are young, think they are invincible, and get really lost in a world of drugs and alcohol.

Some info for all of you: John Paul Jones had seperate limos because of two things... he was not into drugs... or women.

That is why John Paul Jones had a separate limo from the rest of the guys. He seems to be the healthiest now but certainly not as famous.

No, that is just 'rock and roll' hype. Led zeppelin were all very decent blokes.

they tried too, unfortunately the devil doesnt exist, he is purely fictional (much like god) so they sold themselves to a agent instead (which is much worse than the devil)
