Question of the Week - Why Can't Pregnant or Nursing Women Get Tattoos?
Q: I was wondering why pregnant or nursing women shouldn't get a tattoo? What is the medical explanation?

A: If you are pregnant or nursing a child, everything that goes into your body also affects the baby. Everything from spicy food to drugs ends up in the placenta and your milk. When you get a tattoo (or a piercing) you are taking the risk of possible allergic reactions or infection that could potentially be passed on to your child. Your immune system is lowered and you become less able to protect the baby if your body is too busy trying to fight off an infection. Although the actual risk of this happening is small, why take the chance? To protect unborn children, nursing mothers and themselves, most studios have made it a policy not to perform tattoos or piercings on anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. It just isn't worth the risk when you can just wait a few extra months and then get the tattoo or piercing you desire.

What do you want a tatoo for when you can use that cash you got to spend on the baby like cots, baby food, nappies, clothes, a pram and a good health when he/she is born. I aint married or got kids but take my word for it, my mates got kids and theyre telling me you need all the money you can save to raise their children.
Besides mums dont need tatoos, aint gona make you look cool so dont bother trying.
New baby will be coming in to this world, take responsibility and bring him/her up well. Good luck

Well, one, if you have it on your tummy, 7 or 8 months from now its NOT gooing to look like what it origionally did. And after the child is born as well. PLUS, I dont think any professional tattooist in their right mind would do it as well. When you're pregnant you make more blood and you risk the excess bleeding, infection and whatnot. Just wait the nine months and get it after your tummy has gotten back to where it was.

Well, yeah you could, as long as its done in an accredited place that uses sterile instruments. But realize it'll be greatly distorted after all the stretching your tummy is about to do - not to mention the stretch marks that could be running all through it as well. And no, it won't return look like it did once you have the baby, even if your tummy returns to pre-baby form.

Wait til after baby. Plus why would you put one on your belly now- it's only going to stretch and look like crap once you get big then have the baby.

NO!!! Don't un-necessarily expose yourself and your baby to health risks. Needles can spread all kinds of disease!

use the money to get some parenting classes!

Now, think about what you just asked! You are pregnant. You are a mother! Think about the child, not yourself! It's not about you anymore! Why would you want to possibly put your unborn child in danger. I wouldn't do it.
