Emotions can die due to shock.Shock of any kind. Death . Fracture of love.Let down by a friend."You, too, Brutus?" At those moments the sense organs would become completely numb and the communication between the mind and the body snaps.
I feel that revival can only be possible with a similar shock. In the eastern philosophy there is a saying that a thorn in the foot can be removed only by a thorn( in the good old days , in the forests there were no pins or other gadgets to remove the sharp thorn!). So the very thorn that pricked and stays in the flesh , can be removed by another thorn.

There is a saying in Buddhism that when one begins learning Buddhist philosophy, "At first, it seems like there are trees and mountains then there are no trees or mountains, and finally there are trees and mountains again." This is a process of growth. In existentialism, like in Buddhism, there is no inherent meaning. The realization of such a fact necessarily leads to disenchantment. But once such a level has been reached one must open their eyes and see that the world is unchanged just ones understanding of it has changed. This will naturally happen when one is overwhelmed by an experience that exposes them to reality sans the malaise of despair.

A case of emotional death, I feel can be rescued by creating the same circumstances around which led to such a death. This will awake the same emotions once again and once when emotions get wet, it can be again moulded and brought to the right track.

Take an existential shower.
Do you enjoy the Great Outdoors? Spend a weekend contemplating a forest, walking its paths and smelling its scents. Or watch the ocean crashing onto a local beach. Whatever is nearby and natural, take advantage of. And consider its spiritual implications. Commune with your creator, and come away cleansed and ready for more.

Maybe this existential funk/emotional death is caused in large measure by self-pity - too much introspection and
involvement with one's own circumstances.
The best cure? I believe getting involved with helping others who are in worse situations will revive that person's energy and bring his/her emotions back to life.

A very hard question to answer!
We all pass through these times when we feel like that.. I experienced that myself before... Doing the things u like can help, a trip, outdoors, going out with friends, etc etc all these can help.. Do whatever u fancy of that.. But u need ONE person..
Jesus.. (I don;t mean to impose my religion, but I tell u what I believe and have experienced)
Jesus is the only one who have raised even the dead..
He can re-create my heart when I have completely messed up with it
He can open my eyes, when all i see is darkness
He can enlighten my mind when my bad experiences have blocked it
More importantly, He not only CAN, but He WANTS to..
He loves me, so he wants to grant me all that, HE is willing to. & WHen I say He loves me, I mean he loves me NOW, as I am, dead, blind, sinful, whatever... Not as I was or should be..
Sorry, I didn't mean to preach u a reply.. But beleive me this is the most valuable experience I learnt in life!
God Bless u

It sounds like someone else is in this funk and you are trying to get them out of it.
Don't become codependent...don't let them bring you down with them.
You can't give people faith or joy...if they quit believing in their meaning, why on earth would they believe in yours?
Be a listening ear. Be a friend, but don't expect too much.
All you can do is expose them to your meaning and purpose and try to make them smile once and awhile. It's their struggle, not yours.

I don't know...I wish I did know, though--because I feel like I'm there.
