"I tend not to e-mail or--not only tend not to e-mail, I don't e-mail, because of the different record requests that can happen to a president," he said. "I don't want to receive e-mails because, you know, there's no telling what somebody's e-mail may--it would show up as, you know, a part of some kind of a story, and I wouldn't be able to say, 'Well, I didn't read the email.' 'But I sent it to your address, how can you say you didn't?'"

You really think he has the time to do what we're doing right now? That's what a staff is for.

And yes, he's right. With few exceptions, emails sent and received in the course of government business are subject to FOIA and the Privacy Act.

I happen to think that Bush is useless as a leader but I understand his point when it comes to emails. Look what happened to Mark Foley. I'm not saying that Bush is sending dirty emails but the Foley case proves that electronic communications can easily end up in the media.

Interesting point - if someone sends you an email they, and others, will assume you read it.

So if you are not in the habit of reading all of them, it's a good idea not to use email.

I certainly don't read most of mine, and I'm just a private citizen!

He IS the President of the United States. And he makes a valid point. All it would take is one misunderstood e-mail and the Dem's would have a field day. I am impressed by his foresight.

Do you really think he would read them anyway? I'm sure he has a staff to deal with letters, e-mail, etc. All Presidents do.
