Depends on where you live. If you live someplace where it is cold/cooler, you should be fine. Living in Lake Tahoe and now Chicago, Pumpkins could keeo up to 2 weeks, depending on how cold it was during the day. If you live someplace warm, they might not keep that long.
However remeber that Carved Pumpkins are awsome to look at before and up to Halloween, but are a little depressing after Halloween. So go ahead and carve the little devil. Get as much enjoyment out of him as you can.

It really depends on the weather. Here in Florida you're pushing it to carve the pumpkin a week early - especially if it is going to sit outside. Up north, if it's outside you could get a good couple of weeks, maybe more. Inside - depends on if you have the heat on or not.

I rub Vaseline on every carved surface to keep it from drying out.General rule 3-5 days is about as long as you can keep it looking good.

Put petroleum jelly on the edges. works great. If it does dry out, put it in a bath full of water and it will get better. I get excited also and end up carving them to early but these tips work.

Coat the inside of your Jack-O-Lantern with cooking oil and it will keep it fresher as well as ward off that nasty black candle soot.

Depends on the weather but try smearing vaseline on all cut parts. Wraping it in plastic wrap and storing it in the fridge will also extend the life.

You can always put them in the freezer when not "in use" - that should make them last a lot longer. And go with the Vaseline tips too
