can anyone advise me.I have had this problem a few years back, had tests done and nothing.It came back last week, catarrah in my throat and the constant feeling you get when a pill is lodged in the back of your throat and doesn't go down right.I'm a smoker, if that helps(think i might stop now!)any advice appreciated.

you have kind of allergy in your throat,it helps to know what kind of allergen is causing it (in your house,furniture,plants,pets)although most of the time it remains unspecified.
smoking worsens the symptoms of course ,quiting is the best thing to do.

if you mean congestion by cattarh then thats often post nasal drip, drainage down the back of the throat...antihistamines and or decongestants. If the constant sensation of something in your throat when nothing is, thats called globus sensation...may be emotional in origin.

Could be tonsillitis or pharyngeal cancer.
