From www.Webmd.com:
Vaginal yeast infection (vulvovaginal candidiasis) is an excess growth of yeast organisms in the vagina. It causes itching, swelling, and pain during urination and intercourse, and produces a thick, white discharge from the vagina.
Although symptoms are bothersome and can cause severe discomfort, yeast infections rarely lead to serious health problems.
Vaginal yeast infection is common among women of childbearing age but can occur in women of any age. Certain factors increase the risk of getting a vaginal yeast infection. These include using antibiotics, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, or corticosteroids; being pregnant; douching; and wearing tight-fitting clothes. Immune system problems, diabetes, and other diseases also increase the risk of yeast infections.
Vaginal yeast infections can go away on their own; persistent infections are treated with medications.
Good luck!!

Luc above is correct. I get them about 4 times a year from being on birth control. It doesn't mean your dirty or don't wash properly. Most times it's your hormones. When I'm getting one and wipe myself, there will be little white creamy lumps on the toilet paper. After having a few, I can feel inside a little pain and know I'm getting one. My doctor told me that Monastat-7 (7 day treatment) is the best. She said that Monastat-3 (3 day treatment) is okay if I feel one coming and want to nip it in the bud. But, if I get a full blown yeast infection, then I really need 7 days to treat it and make sure it's gone.

all the above is correct. sometimes i have it even with out the odor or discharge... its just itchy and burning. get a monistate if you think you have one - there is a new one with internal medication and an external cream. If i use a maxi pad with dry weave, i am bound to get one.
