Go to www.freecycle.org - when you get to the site, go to your part of the country, then to your state, then to your city or county.

It's people giving stuff away to people, to keep it out of landfills. Now, you do have to offer something before you can ask for something, but once you have given something away (you'd be amazed what people give away) you can put in a wanted for your dirt.

I have gotten a stack of bricks for a patio - all I had to do was go and pick them up and haul them home.

Just put an ad in your local newspaper and I'm sure you'll get some calls because people are always looking for somewhere to dump their dirt.

You need to put a location in that question. I always see things like that in my local newspaper or in the local free tabloid. No one is going to mail a ton of fill to you so you need to think local.

Where are you located? Put signs up "Fill Dirt Wanted" I see them up all over the place. In Seattle.

I'm in NSW and our local builders are always looking to get rid of topsoil free. Ring up and ask. You may have to wait till they are doing work in the same area.

You might want to check with local builders or even paving companies. My hubby worked for a paving company and they were always looking for places to dump fill when removing or grading a driveway.
just a thought, hope it helps!

It's probably the wrong time of year. Check with swimming pool contractors. They might even deliver if the job isn't too far away. Here in Florida its year around.
