In some states it is mandatory... You may want to check your state laws then check your particular county... Start by calling your local courthouse, they should know...

I've been divorced 3 times, and not once went to counseling before the divorce.
Was there a pre-nupt that states this must be done before a divorce is sought?
Who's telling you you have to seek counseling first?
I'm pretty sure it ISN'T a requirment.

Counseling is designed for one thing, to get two people who may have differences that can be fixed. Most people, when they get to divorce stage, counseling may not repair the damage.
I don't think there is any law that says you have to go to this counseling. If you and your significant other are just in a heated discussion, well, give counseling a try if you really want to make it work.

No. But in some states you have to go through counseling if you have children after the divorce.

I don't think so. I think it depends on where you live. I know some might suggest counseling as a last effort to save a marriage. Wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide.

no. Most people that do counseling is because they are either religous or they want to save the marriage. My best friend and my brother both got divorced without choosing to do counseling.

If you have children there is quite abit of stuff you have to do, but with no kids I don't think there is much to do. If both people want the divorce I don't think that requires counseling.

ive heard that some states have made it manditory to go through not only counseling but parenting classes prior to being able to get a divorce.. which i personally think is a GREAT idea..

you don't have to but wouldn't you want to make every effort to keep your marriage intact ?
Personally I think it's too easy to get married and divorced . . and I think many people take marriage lightly because if it doesn't work out there's always a divorce.

If the divorce involves a judge then it helps to go to counseling and show you made every effort to keep it going....
You should go anyway.
