My XP Pro has suddenly become genuine out of no where! I had fake XP Pro and used to get 'This copy of Windows is not genuine' message everytime I tried to update it. But after getting it formatted two days back by my technician, I just sheepishly tried for updates again and lo! it worked!!!!!! And you know what, I was thinking of changing to genuine Home(you can see all those questions I have asked before)!!! But now, I want to be assured that Microsoft won't jump into my house someday and handcuff me. Do you think my technician used some crack? But that would be blocked if I tried to update it, wouldn't it? I am perfectly sure that it is the same copy, because he didn't take a rupee from me( He never has). Should I still change over to genuine Home? Also, I only got the updates of October, is there any way I can get the updates of the previous months?

Thanks a lot !

Hey, I think what happened is that Microsoft stopped the whole WGA (windows genuine advantage) program update... I know because my Desktop doesnt find that update, and the key is a pirate... However, If you try to install Windows Media Player 11 or IE 7, you will not be able to do so, because it WILL fail the validation.

I switched back to my OEM Home edition, for update reasons and new software.
