Black is not a color, but rather the lack of color.

Interesting subject. "Black" has a lot of references. It has always been symbolically associated with "badness" , "evil" negativity, while White has been associated with the opposite... goodness, happiness, etc. Brides have traditionally worn white gowns. In the movies "good guys" wore white hats. In billiards, the eight-ball is black. A b lacklist means a list of people or things that you want to keep away from, or reject. Black Market is an illegal enterprise. Black Magic is connected symbolically to "evil" A "blackhearted" person describes somebody who is mean, negative and without compassion or empathy for others. Blackmail is the illegal compelling of a person to meet the demands of the blackmailer against the threat of exposure of something that would cause harm to the victim, or someone the victim loves. A black mark against you is something you don't want to have You aren't going to fare too well either as the "black sheep" of the family. Black has often been used in clothing to symbolize seriousness or authority... such as the black robes of a catholic priest.. But "Black" really has gotten a bad rap. It has a lot of p;ositivity too. Traditionally every fashion conscious woman wouldn't be without her "little black dress" hanging in the closet... That ever present help when you "haven't got a thing to wear" . P:ut it on to go to the office, then hook on some nice earrings, and a little bling around your neck and you're all glammed up for an evening date. Plant nurseries have long favored black pots for nurturing their growing shrubs, trees and flowers because black helps to divert e xcess heat away from the soil and the plant roots.. And how i n the world wo uld we get a good night's sleep if we couldn't climb into bed and enevelope ourselves in the soothing relaxing blackness of nighttime ? Lots and lots of other references to black, but you should be able to fill your five minutes' talk with the above, and then some. Good luck.

Make it into an artistic statement and sit there for 4 1/2 minutes with a black bag over your head. Then spend the last 30 seconds explaining the symbolism etc.

Why Did You Make Me Black Lord ....
Lord .... Why did you make me black?
Why did you make someone
the world would hold back?

Black is the color of dirty clothes,
of grimy hands and feet...
Black is the color of darkness,
of tired beaten streets...
Why did you give me thick lips,
a broad nose and kinky hair?
Why did you create someone
who receives the hated stare?

Black is the color of the bruised eye
when someone gets hurt...
Black is the color of darkness,
black is the color of dirt.

Why is my bone structure so thick,
my hips and cheeks so high?
Why are my eyes brown,
and not the color of the sky?

Why do people think I'm useless?
How come I feel so used?
Why do people see my skin
and think I should be abused?

Lord, I just don't understand...
What is it about my skin?
Why is it some people want to hate me
and not know the person within?

Black is what people are "Labeled"
when others want to keep them away...
Black is the color of shadows cast...
Black is the end of the day.

Lord you know my own people mistreat me,
and you know this just ain't right...
They don't like my hair, they don't like my
skin, as they say I'm too dark or too light!

Lord, don't you think
it's time to make a change?
Why don't you redo creation
and make everyone the same?

GOD's Reply:

Why did I make you black? Why did I make you black?

I made you in the color of coal
from which beautiful diamonds are formed...
I made you in the color of oil,
the black gold which keeps people warm.

Your color is the same as the rich dark soil
that grows the food you need...
Your color is the same as the black stallion and panther, Oh what majestic creatures indeed!

All colors of the heavenly rainbow
can be found throughout every nation...
When all these colors are blended,
you become my greatest creation!

Your hair is the texture of lamb's wool,
such a beautiful creature is he...
I am the shepherd who watches them,
I will ALWAYS watch over thee!

You are the color of the midnight sky,
I put star glitter in your eyes...
There's a beautiful smile hidden behind your pain...
That's why your cheeks are so high!

You are the color of dark clouds
from the hurricanes I create in September...
I made your lips so full and thick,
so when you kiss...they will remember!

Your stature is strong,
your bone structure thick to withstand the
burden of time...
The reflection you see in the mirror,
that image that looks back, that is MINE!

So get off your knees,
look in the mirror and tell me what you see?
I didn't make you in the image of darkness...
I made you in the image of ME!

To cancel the first idea...black is the combination of all the colors. You could tie something in about all individual parts working together to make something entirely different than what started. Just an idea!

The color black absorbs heat / sun (white reflects sunlight /heat) so black clothing or materials are advised during winter or other cold months. Can you elaborate for 5 minutes on that ?

Lucky's charm....beautiful poem!!!! I love it! Now I forget what my answer was going to be and I'm not going to even try because it was just put to shame! Although.....I'm not so sure they meant black as the color of skin, if they use your poem it may cause some controversy.
