My girlfriend had surgery done a year ago due to a cyst on her left ovary.
She's having the same symptoms with pain and everything. She went to the doctor and found it again. Is there a way to prevent them?

They can come and go. Some people seem to have them more than others. Some people never get them. I had one and it was incredibly painful and took several months to go away. I had to be careful so that it didn't break. If it does break then you need to go to the hospital. There isn't a way to prevent them unfortunately. Best Wishes.

birthcontrol pills help so they don't continue to form, and it that doesn't help then they can remove the ovary if it is bad enough. Which means she would still be able to get pregnant as long as she has the other ovary. But that is the final step in preventing it from happening. Goodluck
