Try looking at the monitor when watching... hehe just joking...
Perhaps you need to:
- try it on another computer to see that it is not faulty
- (not faulty) install a codex to get it working (be careful of what you download)

If you are hearing beep codes. Then the Bios detected an error at bootup before it got the video up and running and went to a halt. If it is the monitor then it might be the monitor is broken I would check with another monitor to see if this is the problem.

You can try to install Combine Community Codec Pack.
It consist of most of the common video codecs which are in use today.

Go to the AviCodec Website and download AviCodec. Now open your Video with this tool, and it will tell you what video codec you need to view your video.
It links to the websites where you can download the needed video codec.

more the likely a codex is needed but beware because some will completely change your computer.
For instance, it may change your homepage and not let you change it again.

you need the proper codecs for the media player you're using.
try getting a new media player.
like quicktime from apple.
