Tell me something, if you're only making one-half of your old wage isn't that like being unemployed for six months out of the year anyway? This type of decrease has occurred in professions like computer programming and of course the auto industry, but it is also spreading to other professions like nursing and the airline industry. If you feel your job is safe beware, it's just a matter of time before they get to you.

So you name four industries, without citing sources, and call the economy bad. Computer progamming wage decreases are probably occuring because there are so many new programmers coming out of college. The auto industry has been smarting since the 1980s because the unions overplayed their hand while the big three saw declining sales thanks to Japanese competition. Nursing is another popular profession right now and it is seeing a glut of new nurses coming out of the schools. The airline industry has yet to fully recover from 9/11 (and probably won't for a long while) so their revenue is down which naturally affects the workers. All four of your examples are perfect demonstrations of the supply/demand curve at work. While I don't think the economy is a panacea I also don't see it as teetering on the edge of a chasm.

Supply and demand. Look at how many more computer programmers are out there now compared to 10 or even 5 years ago. There are way more of them, so they don't have to try to dangle as big of a carrot to get a bite by a bunch of them. The auto industry is only going down hill because of foreign manufacturers opening plants in the south, which are non-union, and lower paying jobs. I'm not saying that the union jobs of the US auto makers are good by any means, but they are stuck working with the unions, and the other companies are not, making the competition not fair.

I hate to tell you but your job now competes against everyone in the world. Cuputer programers had a niche now there are tons of them, the auto industry has the unions to blaim, airline industry due to 9/11 and nursing is a hot commodity so I don't know why you brought that up. Employers have no loyalty to employees because employees have no loyalty to employers! If you want a job you must prove yourself and consteantly upgrade your worth to the company. Don't moan when you get fired do something to improve your worth of employment. Good employees are always rewarded and kept. And if you think you are one then you aren't because a good employee knows he or she has to be better than the next and you never know who the next is. You just have to be willing to adapt and be a positive asset to the company. The economy is doing great and Republicans have the right to "crow" because the Democrats "crowed" about it during Clinton and "crowed" when the market went down in 2001.

The economy has been steadly growing for the last six years. Employment is not at an all time high as you may suggest. Don't go into computer programming, like it or not. those type jobs are headed overseas. The auto industry is a very competitive market place - provide what the public wants or sales suffer. The demand for nurses is at an all time hight - go to school. The airline industry is also very competitive, but look at Southwest, again, provide what the public wants and they will come.

The auto industry has been in serious trouble since the early 70's. The unions and the automakers have not been paying attention for years. The unions keeps wanting more and more money for their drugged out drones on the line and the automakers have done little to nothing to increase the quality to compete. They have continued on their path of making the 2-3 year trade in car and pricing it above the foreign car that will last 10-12 yrs or more. The economy is changing and has been for decades. If you are just figuring it out, it is you who has been asleep. But the figures are all good and strong.

The economy is going like gang busters, If you dont make enough money at your current job. Find a new one, start a small buisness, dont blame the Republicans for your lack of motivation. For your information, nurses are not making less money.
