Its amazing to me. You spend 1000 dollars or more for AC and worry if you should use it. On a modern car the mpg difference is very small. Cars are designed in a wind tunnel for the best mpg with the windows up.. Gawd use the AC,,,or the window if you want... don't worry...be happy.

Air conditioning takes horsepower causing your car to have to work harder to pull itself, thus increasing fuel consumption. Having your windows open won't affect drag that much, the majority of the air traveling around and over your car hits the windshield and hood and goes over the roof... it wouldn't create enough drag on the inside of your car to make a huge difference in fuel usage.

Depends on the speed - as the aerodynamic drag is proportional to the square of the speed.
Generally:
up to 40mph - windows
above 50mph - aircon

There are so many other factors that would be in force when considering this question, it would be impossible to define which would be more economical.
For comfort sake, just switch-on the aircon, close the windows, and be comfortable.

dont know if that helps
but city driving i always use aircon y oh y do i want to breath the fumes in around newcastle
in the country i much rather prefer fresh air
