My mother told me that the reason she broke up with my father is that she wasn't in love with him, but that she was in love with the thought of being in love. I'm studying to become a psycologist and those words have always stuck with me since I was little. I'm married now and I know I'm in love with him, but I recently told a friend what my mother told me and she realized she wasn't in love with her boyfriend and broke up with him. Was that a good thing?

Yes, because there is not point in being in a relationship when you think you love them and find out that you are really in love with the idea of being in love. I think that is where I stand with my husband right now. You are the first person that has said what I have been trying to figure the words out for. This happens quiet often. It's a good thing for people to realize. This way, they don't wind up in a situation like me, married with 2 kids, and then realize that they are in love with the idea of loving this person.
