Technically, the US government is not a democracy; we're a constitutinal republic. Democracy is actually a very ineffective form of government (it's mob rule, which is loud, unorganized, and at times, anarchistic), and the writers of the constitution new this. That's why our government is desgined the way it is: we vote for representatives who we are entrusting to run the government on our behalf. In fact, originally the senate wasn't elected directly like it is today, it was chosen by an electoral college like the one that (technically) elects the president. The senate was designed to be ditanced from the people while the house was designed to directly keep up with them. The probalms with pure democracy is people are fickle; immediate response to the masses can cause catastrophic response on a larger scale. The founding fathers were smart enough to make a governement distant enough not to be swayed at a moments notice, but still capable of ensuring liberty. So, in short, we were set up a Constitutional Republic and still are.

I believe first and foremost in the PEOPLE of the United States, I do believe that Democracy can work and does. However, the people that Run the Government is a different story. I think this country was better with Clinton in Office, that is why I will vote for Hillary in '08!

Yes.
We are a long way from perfection, but when we, the people, finally do get a handle on government (throw out the two-party system and elect people who represent the people instead of their party), we will be a lot closer to perfection.
We have a good model to build on, it is up to us as a people to stop the media from influencing our political views and just go back to reporting something new and different for them ....FACTS WITHOUT SPIN. It is up to us to rid ourselves of all incumbents and candidates of both parties who only seek power for themselves and their party, rather than the good of this country.
I believe in what our government can be and I believe in the American people. I may never see it in my lifetime, but at some point, I know the power abusers will be voted out and decent Americans will be voted in. It will start when a person with NO party affiliation is elected to some office and it will snowball from there.
Yes, I believe in the model of Democracy and the model for government in the United States.

I believe in Democracy and government before the year 2000, when George Herbert Walker Bush's appointees on the Supreme Court appointed a president instead of him being elected in a fair and impartial election.
