Finance need to speak to payroll to ensure employee costs are allocated to the correct cost centres, marketing need to speak to finance to find out how much they have spent on particular campaigns and how much budget they have remaining, operations managers need to liase with finance to set budgets, sales need to speak to finance to check that a customer is within their credit terms before taking further orders, marketing need to speak to sales to establish which products are underperforming so they know where to target their efforts.

This is just a few examples, there are many more reasons along the same lines.

I'm curious as to why you are asking this question. I hope that you are not some vice-chancellor somewhere!!!

Of course these departments need to liase with each other, and I think you'll find that at every institution they do, and I don't just mean in terms of finance telling marketing how much to spend on prospectuses.

Running a university costs money, and each student brings a certain amount of money to the university with them. Finance liase with marketing to let them know how many students the university needs before it goes bust, and marketing then recruit those students, liasing with admissions so their application are processed smoothly. Admissions then liase with finance in regards to tuition fee payments and letting them know final number of students admitted. And then, of course, each university department will have their own budget for staff, office equipment, training, etc and so they will liaise with finance for that too.
Hope that answers your question.
