If you're taking them as directed (i.e. at about the same time every day and not skipping any pills) you have about a 1% chance of getting pregnant every time you have sex. If you're taking them less than perfectly or failing to use a backup method when taking antibiotics, your chances increase sharply. Since the pill doesn't protect from STDs, your best bet is to back it up with a condom every time.

Well it is pretty likely even though they are 98 to 99% effective. But you have to remember that you have to take them correctly everyday, every month! So many pregnancies on the pill happen because of missed pills. But if you use them correctly then they are really good at preventing pregnacy. Antibotics sometimes will interfere with the effectiveness of pills too.
Back up protection is always good. Wearing a condom and being on the pill will greatly reduce the chances of getting pregnant and the condom will help against STD's.

Most pills are only like 98-99% effective and that is if you take them correctly all of the time. I would have to guess and say with the amount of human error involved, you have about a 10% chance in getting pregnant while on the pill. I know many people who have gotten pregnant while on Yasmen, so I would avoid that one. I was on Ortho Trycyclen (sp?) for 7 years and didn't get pregnant, so it all depends.

Somewhat likely. My bestfriend was on the pill and took the moring after pill and still came up pregnant. I don't know how but take it as a blessing if it does happen as God had a reason.

First of all, there is NO SAFE SEX!! The likelihood of your getting pregnant is somewhat slim, but if you forget a pill, he doesn't use condoms, etc, it is possible. Even in situations where you are taking the pill faithfully and he uses a condom you CAN get pregnant. If you are not ready for a baby, practice the ONLY safe method of birth control---abstinence. Sex is not that big of a deal, wait.

Alot of things can effect how effective the pill is. I was on the pill when I got pregant with both my kids. It must be taken at the same time everyday, any meds you take can effect it. They are not 100% effective in the first place. Good luck!!

It can happen. Nothing works 100%. I am pregnant with our 2nd son ( 6 1/2 months along) and I was on the pill. So if you don't want to get pregnant. Don't have sex. Sex is for married adults only.

Virtually 99% however they will have side effects especially on the young.
My girlfriend puts on weight and gets spotty. Now if I want action I have to wear a condom. I don't mind as her health is important. Condoms nowadays are really thin and not much different from not having one on.
