I just bought a house and the septic tank backflowed into the basement. When I had it pumped, I was informed that it had not been pumped in at least 15 years - closer to 20. I was also told that legally, the tank has to be pumped before you can close on a house.

Is this true?
Is the realstate or previous owner responsible for cost?
Are there any links that you can give to help me?

PS - I live in Tenneessee

Thank You!

I believe the sellers should have disclosed when they last pumped the septic tank. Or you should have asked.

It is your responsibility if it was working when you moved in. Put RIDX in the system once or twice a year.
