Don't you think we are worrying a bit too much about TV and movie stars? People can tell you the entire cast of survivor or know the entire Friends series by heart but how many can tell you the names of their State Represenatives or Senators? How many know the name of a president from another country? I think this may be the reason why our world is in the state that it is currently in and I'm getting scared. What do you think?

I have completely stopped Television from entering my life. I use it for movies and I cannot get any stations. I'd rather read.

There is so much violence on TV, the talk shows are not realy informative, the news is filtered. The soaps are stupid no morals. I think television is doing more harm than good.

I watch television once a week for two hours. That's IT! And the shows I watch are old British comedy shows. I live in the country and can't afford a satellite dish, and I spend my time on Yahoo Answers! I haven't noticed that this site is much more highbrow than some of the shows I've seen in the past, but at least it's interactive! I'd choose the Internet over TV any day! It is self-directed brain rot with some real gems to be found!

P.S. I do admit that I would love to have the Cartoon Network, History Channel, Sci-Fi Channel, A&E, TCM and the like, but I'm not desirous enough to get up and call the satellite company about it.

I reckon the underlying question here is: "If television was never invented, and you are a useless waste of clothing. What other way would you find to become obese and brain dead?"
Don't blame the media, if a person is a waster, they are going to waste away. If somebody is energetic, interesting and full of life, this will be reflected in how they spend there days.

Not in my case. I love TV and am proud of it and will not apologize to anyone. I am a smart person, but, no, I cannot name all the politicians who represent me at this time. And, I don't feel bad about that. Just knowing the names doesn't get me anywhere unless I need to contact them, in which case, I am smart enough to know where to go to find that information. When it is time to vote, I am quite informed about the candidates and their platforms and feel I cast an informed vote.

So, lay off. It is my business what I do with my free time.

Yes. Absolutely. It's a brain drain, unless you watch the history channel, or the discovery channel, and are very selection with news broadcasts. Old movies are okay.

TV also desensitizes one to accept media moguls' morality as okay.

Only stupid people with nothing better going on in their lives allow TV to have THAT much impact on their daily lives.

Just turn the f*cking thing off if it's THAT bad.

Truthfully you are right and in the same breath, that's your opinion. And maybe you need to step back and relax. That's the problem with this country, people always impose their views on people. Peace be with you.
