I checked everywhere & can't figure out where they are coming from. They are primarily in the kitchen, bath & a few in the basement. No fruit/veggies sitting out. Do I have to do a " bug bomb " ? Thanks!

Jenn is right. They are either shore flies or fungus gnats and they are a result of overwatering plants. But you don't want to water every day like she said. Let the soil dry completely out between waterings. The larvae in the soil need the water to live and the plant can stand drying out better than the larvae can. Let it dry comepletely out for 3 or 4 times and it should kill all the larvae.

For the adults you may want to use a bug bomb because these pests do not stay near or on the plant--they can be everywhere. So bug bomb is your best bet. So doing these 2 things should eliminate your problem.

In the future then, water your plants when the top one inch of soil is dry. More often than that and you risk them coming back. Also never let water stand in the saucer if you have saucers under the pots.

AH! I hate these things!! I had them ALL over my apartment for over a month! Well, I tried a bunch of the tips online - apple vinegar, bleach down the drains, anything -- the ONLY thing that helped a little were these fly sticky tapes that a hung around the house. I also searched EVERYWHERE for something they were after! Then my cat got fleas, they told me to get a flee bomb the place. After doing that the buggers have been gone for over a month now and life is wonderful again! Although that same night i found what they were after.....I saw i pile of dead ones by a cabinet in the dinning room -- my BF had put a bag of potatoes there probably over a year ago - it was disgusting - there were a couple live ones still in it but a lot of dead ones all around...i threw it out and we have been bug free ever since!

good luck!

Killing Gnats In The House

I swear everyone I know had huge problems with them this year. I quit buying fresh produce for about 1 month and they just kind of slowly disappeared. An older lady I know said she would leave out a glass of wine overnight and they would be attracted to that but the alcohol would kill them and that is how she got rid of them. Bug bombs are a pain, avoid that if at all possible. Perhaps some patience and wine (a small glass for them and the rest for you!!)
Good luck!

Do you have any fruit out? You might have to put all of your fruit in the fridge for like 2 weeks. Ever heard of Borax? You can get it in the grocery store or Walmart. Get all house pets away from the area that you are going to treat, sprinkle that in the carpet areas, wait like 10 minutes, then vaccum it all up. That's what we do to get rid of fleas and any other tiny critters that begin to show up in our apartment.

They can come from plants that are being over watered. The moist soil is where their eggs get hatched. So when watering make sure hat you are not over watering. The soil doesn't need to be wet. Watering them just a little everyday will do.

Flies become a nuisance when they enter homes. You can get rid of them by using pest control.

I get those little suckers a lot too. I bought some of those sticky flypaper rolls very cheaply and hung it near my sink. It worked very well. It wasn't very attractive, but it got rid of them!
