It depends- I don't suppose there is one underlying cause for all hate- For example, if someone killed your family, you might hate them out of anger and sadness, If you hate a particular group of people it could be that you have false perceptions about them that somehow threaten you or your lifestyle and therefore that would be hate out of fear, and others just hate because they perceive certain groups as inherantly evil and not deserving of respect. They don't necessarily fear them, they just don't like them and they take that to the extreme.

There are some individuals who I could say "I hate that person", and there are some groups of people about whom I could say the same. But in truth, it is not the person that I hate, but their actions. Underlying that, could be fear, could be anger, or revulsion, or a feeling of injustice. I'd be willing to bet that fear tops the list though.

hate is such a strong emotion - i don't think it's fear, but more like anger that causes people to hate - if you cannot get over your unresolved feelings of anger towards someone that may have hurt you, i think that anger turns into hate. i think another underlying cause for hatred is envy - if you envy someone that has something you do not, that can turn into hatred. You gotta let the hatred go, cause it can eat you up inside and turn you into a bitter person incapable of loving.

Hating all people??
Or just some people??
Hating all people is wrong and indicates the need for medical intervention.
Hating one or two may be justified.
Perhaps it is fear. It is also lack of empathy or understanding what motivates the other person.

The underlying cause for hating people, is people, a lot of "people" cant seem to grasp that it is nice to be nice, and it does not cost a penny.

It can be fear or jealousy or insecurity - quite a lot of things I suppose. I have a hatred for my first husband that definitely isnt fear - its a hatred for everything he put me through. I have no contact now and havent had for 20 years but boy I hate him as much as ever.

I would say jealousy at some level which might lead to fear of not being good enough ..... I also think that a lack of empathy and knowledge of others when talking of large groups of people ...

I am wary of most people - but "hate" is too strong a word - you don't know that person enough to hate them at first sight. You get wary - & then other people start complaining we're an unfriendly race. Take people as they come - & you should be ok.

I have a theory that they have the trait they hate the most. For instance, have you ever heard someone complain about someone else complaining about how bad they feel? Usually that person does the same.

I do believe it is fear. Fear that we may actually understand them after we have been taught our whole lives (weather by parents or society) that they are different or no good.
