My boyfriend has a sinus infection, and he hates taking medicine. We just started using our heater, could these things be related?

Yes, it isn't helping it.

Go buy a bulb syringe--where you buy baby stuff. Combine a 1/4 tsp. of salt in warm water. When it has cooled slightly, put some of the salt water in the bulb and (standing over the sink or toilet)....shoot it up one nostril. It is going to clear out SO much of all that nasty, infected mucus. You do have to cough it up and out as it drains out of the sinus. Repeat with the other nostril. Only do this once a week till it's all gone. One time might just get rid of it all. Doing it more than that will damage the sinus lining. No drugs and boy, is he going to feel a LOT better.

Sudafed really works well at drying up the sinuses. In most states now, it is kept behind the counter in the pharmacy, because it is an ingredient in some illicit drug or other. But it really clears the head up. The thing to do is to drink lots of nice warm, herbal tea (not caffeinated tea) or chicken soup, which really, really DOES help. Or herbal tea and chicken soup. Take 2000 mg (2 g) vitamin C, to help your body fight off the infection. Take aspirin or tylenol to bring down the swelling of the mucous membranes. And if you are sneezing, you will probably need an antihistamine, too. Let the pharmacist suggest, because you may be able to find one of those combination OTC preparations that has all 3 in it. The crawl into bed with your soup and your tea, and watch TV and sip. Then fall asleep, and get lots of sleep to let your body's defenses concentrate on getting the crud out of your system. Deal with it symptomatically tomorrow. But keep taking that vitamin C and forcing fluids.

Steam is the best to open sinuses. Also, if you take some hot water and put about 10 drops of Tabasco sauce in it and sip it. Really, it's not as bad as it sounds! The heater might have kicked up some dust which could be irritating.

I use a Netti pot for any sinus or nasal stuffiness... You use it sort of like the bulb syringe- as explained by another answer- but this pot is used to pour sea salt and water solution through the nose.

This link can explain a bit better. I have never suffered symptoms for more than 2 days. This is all natural, and works wonders for allergy sufferers too as it rinses all the allergens out of nasal passages! Good luck!

all of the above plus a good snort of goldenseal powder;
horseradish under the nose;
rubbing menthol on the affected area ("Migrastick" works well)
