No. We all have a duty to supply a pet with what it needs and that takes money. Having animals is a privelege not a right and if you can't afford it, it's cruel just to let it slide.

Hi I think a lot of people are a bit naive when it comes to owning an animal. I don't think anyone intentionally gets a pet thinking they will never take care of it other than feeding it. I think that a lot of people, especially with cats, don't realize how much a vet bill can be. Dogs are a lot easier and cheaper to treat than cats, because dogs are closer related to humans in that they can have antibiotics that they give children, unfortunately they charge a whole lot more!!! Cats are very particular about the medication you can give them. Like you can give a dog aspirin for arthritis, but not a cat. I think a lot of people end up in a situation that they can no longer afford to take the animal for regular check ups, from divorce or job loss, which it is very hard to afford a vet, when you are having a hard time just feeding it or yourself. And who is going to give up their best friend on the thought alone that they may need a vet someday.... I think a lot of people say they can't afford a vet, but when it comes down to it, most figure out a way. I think a lot of people just need affirmation too that they are doing the right thing by taking them to the vet, and not just jumping the gun and spending money they don't really have on something that may be fixed at home. I have seen a few of those questions on here.....

No, but unfortunately people get pets because at the time they seem cute and cuddly but they do not think about the care involved. This is so sad because these pets are usually the statistics of abandoned or abused not to mention neglected of the right care and nutrition.
People need to think about things before they go on a wim and get something they really cannot afford.

Now you do have those people that could afford the pet when they got it and certain circumstances arise that they cannot afford them anymore, so the statistics of these animals usually go to shelters, but some do end up abandoned. It is a very sad situation.

No way. Some people think I'm weird for this, but a year ago I had two really sick guinea pigs and the vet bills and medications really added up and some people wondered why would spend money on something that is "just a guinea pig." They are my pets and can not care for themselves so it is my responsibility to do it. If I couldn't afford it I wouldn't have pets. It's neglectful.

no its very wrong. it is one of the things to consider before getting a pet. its not fair on the animal otherwise. pets arent cheap to care for..they need a proper home, food, toys, trips to the vet, vaccinations. so much.
i have always wanted a pet for me and my son but havent done in the past because of money and i wouldnt have been able to afford it.so i gave up smoking and the money i save on that will go for the care of my bunny.
if only people sat and thought things through properly before getting a pet then maybe there wouldnt be so many neglected animals and those needing rehoming. sad but true

Unfortunately many people own pets that they can not afford to care for.
If you can not afford to spay/neuter your dog or provide heartworm preventative or flea medication or a vet visit for something you should not own the dog.
They are a responsibility like anything else. But people today do not take responsibility for anything nothing is their fault.
So the problem continues.

You should really think about taking care of yourself and your family before taking on the responsibility of an expensive high maintenance pet. Even though it's a nice gesture to invest in such adorable creatures, you will be digging yourself a hole in the long run and it will be a terrible climbing out of it.

Cant afford, as in cannot buy it food? If you cannot provide for the animals basic needs then no you should not own it. That is sad to say but you have to look out for the well being of the animal.

depends if you have had the pet for a while and you suddenly become broke then I would have to say yes your pet is still a member of your family. you dont give your kids away b/c your broke. however dont go out and by a pet when you know your broke and cant afford it.

It's not a very good idea. Try to find a loving person with the funds to care for the pet and give it to them. Its better than starving or etc.
