What you must understand is that life and evolution as a combination is so powerful that every avenue which will support life is explored in time. So wasps have exploited area like bees and other insects where they feed on the product of various plants and in return help to propagate those plants. some species of wasp, and there are many species, help to keep some plant pests under control. Before you ask if any species is necessary you need to ask are you necessary

Bovver boys of the insect world.

Nothing for them to do so they hang around nice shrubberies annoying the neighbours.

No wasp chip shops so they have to make do with the Bee leftovers.

I blame the parents.

There sole purpose is to make other wasps and to annoy us. No they also pollinate the flowers too

Absolutely no pupose other than to irritate those near them, have you noticed that they can get into your house through the smallest opening yet you can leave a door open to let them out and they can't find it

No - they eat rotting fruit and provide a tasty meal for lots of birds.

Revolting things though - I'm sure birds could live without them

they have no purpose only to annoy us humans ans sting us!i say lets destroy them and make them extinct! yes i am terrified of them and happen to be allergic to wasp stings!
